The interface choice is decent; dell failed to cut corners here, even if over simply 3 usb ports would be nice.
For ~$600, an i3 was ok in summer, but with the year drawing to its end and Intel’s new ivy bridge cpu's exposure during a couple of months, it would are nice if a discounted i5 with its hd3000 might have made it into this model.
There is no dedicated gpu in the least, so you are stuck with the i3's anemic integrated graphics...
As for the screen, i find the 1366x768-pixel resolution poor; notwithstanding what fancy names they give it. However, dell is not alone with this; everything from 11" to 15" comes with this atrocious resolution currently.
To me, this resolution would be effective in an entry level gaming machine with a lower mid-range gpu just like the hd6630m or gt540m, since those gpus do lots better with low resolutions.
This notebook but has no gpu, so you may not be taking part in any games with it - leaving it for people that only do office work and maybe watch an occasional video. For office work, 1366x768 is extremely poor, especially if you are stuck with Microsoft’s latest version of office with those huge ribbons... there is little screen house left for excel and word to show what you are truly making an attempt to figure on. you'll forget about legibly displaying a full page of a document. In excel, you may be during a hell of scrolling-up-and-down-and-back-and-forth.
Therefore, I contemplate this show a mismatch for the sole role this laptop can fulfill. (if you would like nothing over browse the web, you'll in fact get a far lighter weight net book, or, god forbid, a tablet)
lastly, it’s not precisely light weight for the screen size, there are 15.6" notebooks that weigh less.
You are probably able to configure this model differently on dell's website, but there can be drastic worth variations in either direction, even for a unit with identical spec, because dell's own quoted costs never embrace tax, so on dells web site your bill jumps once you reach checkout, on Amazon it doesn't. At different times, dell could have cut its costs, while the sales channel remains filled with product with the recent worth. so do yourself a favor and double check :)
Cannot replace battery with non-oem battery
Dell must become organized. lots of their laptops no longer work with non-oem batteries, which means that when your battery no longer holds a charge (usually happens during a year or two, depending on your use), you've got to shell out a hell of lots of cash to shop for an imaginative dell battery. you may not be able to use a non-oem battery (which would be abundant cheaper). you may get this error message if you try to use a non-dell battery during a dell laptop:
"the model range for the primary battery can't be determined. this may prevent any battery gift from charging. Please insert a dell battery for best system operation."
I am never planning to get another dell laptop. this is a deal-breaker for me.
Awesome laptop
Half my life is on the computer. Therefore, i actually required one that's simple to use, reliable, smart quality. (This factor is solid as a rock!) I shopped and shopped for many months, looked closely at different brands, reviews, ratings, etc, and decided this was the one for me!
Nice
The only complaint is that the speakers are on all-time low, and are not the best. i would recommend an honest set of ear/head phones. Speed, power, all great.
Battery life is phenomenal for me. I play lots of music, so it is understandably a shorter battery life.
Good laptop
I used the same laptop at work for the regarding the last 3 years, and it is a workhorse. With a spill resistant keyboard and drop zone arduous drive; this notebook will take the daily knocks of the regular commuter. this is no Panasonic toughbook but it will survive your daily us.
Dell review
I bought this computer and it broke when two months of using it. It makes an awful noise and smells like those that something is burning. I sent it back to dell, and once they sent it back to me, it persisted on having the same drawback. They failed to even fix it! do not get dell! managing dell manufacturer could be a nightmare! the standard of technical support and therefore the quality of this product is solely below any human standard!

For this worth or maybe less, you'll get a fresh laptop with additional features... Complete joke... probably making an attempt to sell this on ignorant customers...

Have not opened the box nonetheless. My partner paid $500 at best get for the peacock blue model. She declined any enhancements, extended warranty, anti-virus, and setup.
